Background: Sternoclavicular dislocation is a rare lesion among joint trauma. Conservative management is commonly described and suggested by means of closed reduction and subsequent immobilization of the affected limb. The aim of the study is to review the patient outcomes in patients surgically treated with blocked plates.
Materials and methods: A case-series descriptive study was carried out, describing the cases of patients diagnosed with sternoclavicular dislocation between 2009 and 2010. The Constant scale was applied to objectively evaluate the functional performance of each patient until complete rehabilitation.
Results: Four patients met the inclusion criteria of the study, 3 male patients and one female patient. Postoperative evaluation posed very good results, since when measuring the functionality with the scale of constant the results were superior to the 90 points in all the cases.
Discussion: The fixation with blocked plates of the sternoclavicular dislocation seems to have very good functional results, although given the small number of patients included in the series, its true advantages can not be definitively concluded.
Evidence level: IV.
