Scope and aim

The Revista Colombiana de Ortopedia y Traumatología (ISSN 0120-8845 and E-ISSN: 2256-490) is a diamond open access scientific journal produced by the Sociedad Colombiana de Cirugía Ortopédica y Traumatología - SCCOT (Colombian Society of Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery). The Journal publishes articles, both in Spanish and English, about orthopedics and traumatology, and topics related to the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal system injuries and diseases. Our objective is to publish high-quality and relevant, both locally and globally, articles through a comprehensive review process carried out by expert peer reviewers and the editorial team.

The Revista Colombiana de Ortopedia y Traumatología was first published in 1987 and since 2013 has been publishing its contents only in digital format. In January 2025, the publication model transitioned from a quarterly format (four volumes per year) to a continuous publication model (one volume yearly), with all articles published in both English and Spanish.

The Journal publishes the following article types: original research, case reports, reviews (systematic and/or meta-analysis, scoping reviews, and literature reviews under the PRISMA methodology), reflections, current concepts, letters to the editor, and editorials. All articles, except letters to the editor and editorials, are subjected to a double-blind peer review process.

Articles must be submitted to the Journal through our OJS platform (Submissions tab). Prior to submission, authors must ensure that the article has not been published elsewhere and strictly meets all the criteria stipulated in our Authors Guidelines for the article category. Articles may be written in Spanish or English. However, articles in English must conform to the specific language requirements outlined in the “Submission Languages and Final Publication Language” section of our Authors Guidelines.

The Journal does not charge any fees for the submission, processing, and publication of articles (including their translation into English). Once the article is submitted, the journal reserves the right to make format, content, and typographical changes to the original text at different stages of the editorial workflow. Authors will be notified of these changes for their review and approval.

The abbreviated title of the Journal is Rev. Colomb. Ortop. Traumatol. It must be used when citing the contents published in our Journal.
