Abstract

Introduction: The thoracolumbar syndrome is an unknown pathology for many physicians. Few studies have been published in the literature. It’s a pathology of great importance that influences the differential diagnosis of back and abdominal pain, and leads into mistaken diagnosis in many specialties. The purpose of this study is to divulge the knowledge of this pathology and to present the author’s experience in its treatment.

Methods: We included patients with thoracolumbar syndrome that consulted the Hospital Universitario de Barranquilla, the Clínica Bautista, and the autor’s particular consultation between January 1995 and january 2020.

Results: Two hundred and fifty eight cases have been studied from January 1995 to January 2010. We analyzed false diagnosis finding a clear ignorance of this pathology.

Discussion: This is a syndrome that involves the diagnostic skills of orthopedists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, urologists, gynecologists and rheumatologists.
