Posterior shoulder dislocation is a rare occurrence that accounts for about 5% of dislocations of the glenohumeral joint. The vast majority occurs traumatically. The case is presented of a young female patient, exhibiting a posterior fracture dislocation of the shoulder. Because of the type of fracture, she was initially scheduled for osteosynthesis vs. humeral head arthroplasty, 6 days after the injury. Given the results of previous diagnostic aids, it was decided to ask for both materials for surgery: prosthesis and plate.
During surgery, a proper open reduction of the fracture was achieved by using plate and screws. It is worth highlighting the approach and reduction manoeuvre at the time of surgery to stabilise the fracture, making osteosynthesis the better choice, given the young age of the patient young age, and maintaining the integrity of the glenohumeral anatomy.
Evidence level: IV.
